Using Open Portal can save you time, effort and money. There is no need for you to visit us, ring us or write to us - you can view and manage your account or claim online at a time that suits you.
You can only claim Housing Benefit if the below apply to you:
- You are single and have reached State Pension Age.
- You are in a relationship and you have both reached State Pension Age.
- You are in Council placed emergency housing or exempt housing.

If this list does not apply to you then you will need to make a claim for your housing costs through Universal Credit. Please follow the link below to make a new claim online.

You may also be able to claim Council Tax Support, which can cover some of your Council Tax bill if you are of working age with a low household income. If you are of pension age then you may be able to have all of your Council Tax bill paid.
