Droitwich Spa Underpass Art Project

The Droitwich Spa Underpass Art Project, led by Wychavon, will transform seven underpasses across the town into outdoor pieces of artwork.

The aim is to promote local pride by celebrating the community and history of the town, as well as improve the look and feel of these sites to increase walking and cycling opportunities. Other works to improve the sites will also take place, such as lighting upgrades.

Professional artists will work with schools and community groups to design colourful artworks based on ideas from local people. The pieces will explore a range of themes, with decisions for each site taken in consultation with residents.

You can help influence the design of the artworks by taking part in the Droitwich Spa Underpass Art survey. You can also watch the Droitwich Spa Underpass Art Project explainer video (opens in new window)

The project is funded by Wychavon District Council, Droitwich Spa Town Council and money from the Government's Welcome Back Fund which comes from the European Regional Development Fund. Worcestershire County Council is also supporting the scheme.

A steering group of local stakeholders oversees the project, with representatives from organisations including Droitwich Arts Network, Westlands Residents Group, Droitwich Action for Future Youth, Droitwich Spa Youth Council, Droitwich Spa High School, Platform Housing Group, Droitwich Standard, and West Mercia Police.

Get involved and have your say

We want to hear from you about what you would like to see represented in the new artworks.

Perhaps you would like to see something that Droitwich Spa is famous for, or something special in your community?

Maybe you have an idea for a theme that is linked to one of the selected sites?  Or it could simply be something that would entertain you or brighten your day, like the natural world or your favourite colour?

Our community consultation gives you the opportunity to get creative and help inspire the artists who will be producing the artwork.  You can also find out about some ideas that have been suggested by other people and let us know which ones you like best.

To share your views fill out our online survey form. The consultation will be closing sometime on 3 September 2021 so don't delay, get involved and tell us what you think.

All responses will be reviewed by the project team and given to the artists to help inspire their creations.
