Business Front Improvements in Droitwich Spa

Date: 10 October 2024

Two businesses in Droitwich Spa have received over £10,500 in funding from Wychavon to encourage further investment in the town.

Nelly’s Yard and Ban Laeng Thai Massage Therapy located on the popular high street have each received funding from the scheme to renovate their traditional shop frontages.

The Business Front Improvement grant is a joint initiative between Wychavon and the Droitwich Spa Place Board where businesses receive fifty percent of the renovation costs required to make upgrades to the shop frontages. It is also funded through Wychavon’s share of the Governments UK Shared Prosperity Fund, as part of the commitment to supporting our town centres.

Cllr Richard Morris, Executive Board Member for Economic Growth and Tourism on Wychavon District Council, said: “Keeping Droitwich Spa an attractive place to visit for residents and tourists alike is a priority and I am delighted we have been able to use our part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to make these and many other improvements to our high street.”

Matt Nicol, Chair of Droitwich Spa Place Board, said: “The improvements made will have an impact on our high street, it’s going to help showcase the town’s historic architecture and character. We’re proud to be part of this.”

The owner of Ban Laeng Thai Massage Therapy building has been awarded £5,300 for help with new signage, repainting and repairing rotten wood and white plaster on the building.

Nick Rudge, owner of Ban Laeng Thai Massage Therapy, said: “I am extremely grateful for the Council’s scheme, it has improved the look of my business and the high street. The fund has helped to revive and restore the buildings appearance and reinstate the traditional shop frontage features.”

Nelly’s Yard has received £5,475 from the Fund to make many improvements including cleaned and filled render, replacement woodwork and a repainted shop frontage.

Mary Gandy, landlord of Nelly’s Yard, said: “The building looks so much better now that the renovation works have been completed. I’m proud of my business, and the frontage is so much more inviting.

Applications to the Business Improvement Scheme are now closed. Wychavon and the Droitwich Spa Place Board are currently assessing four more applications from the Droitwich Spa area.
