Check your photo ID or you could miss out

Residents are urged to check they have the correct photo ID to vote in the upcoming UK General Election.

A change in the law means people now need to show an accepted form of photo ID, such as a UK passport or driving licence, at a polling station. The full list of accepted photo ID is available on Wychavon’s website.

Anyone who doesn’t have an accepted form of photo ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate through Wychavon’s website. But residents should check as soon as possible as the deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday, 26 June.

Since the election was called, Wychavon has only received 50 applications for a free voter ID, despite Cabinet Office data showing that 2% of people - which equates to 1,560 people in Wychavon - don’t hold a valid form of photo ID.

Vic Allison, Acting Returning Officer for the Droitwich and Evesham Parliamentary Constituency, said: “Taking just five minutes to check you have the right photo ID could be the difference between having your say in the upcoming General Election or losing your voice. Anyone who needs a Voter Authority Certificate should be aware of the deadline and apply as soon as possible.”
