Wychavon has granted almost £1 million to a range of schemes that will improve the lives of residents across the district.
Six projects will benefit from the fifth and final round of Wychavon’s Community Legacy Grants scheme after winning approval from councillors.
They include £134,000 to upgrade Pinvin Memorial Hall, which is close to 100 years old. The funding will be used to modernise the hall to make it sustainable, energy efficient and fully accessible.
Work planned includes a side extension to provide new fully accessible universal toilets and baby changing facilities, with more storage space to boost the number of groups able to hire the hall. There will also be a new fully fitted kitchen to support a community café, new disabled access points, and a rear extension to provide changing rooms for users of the playing fields.
Evesham Adventure Playground has been awarded £300,000 to create a new community hub to serve residents in the south of the town. The building will include two halls for hire, consultation rooms, a sensory space and a kitchen with toilets. The existing hall will be repurposed into a home for the group’s bike recycling project and community pantry.
Another £130,000 has been granted to Droitwich Heritage Centre to improve, update and re-imagine the space and some of the exhibitions to make them more hands-on and interactive.
Hanbury Parish Council will use £145,000 to upgrade the recreation ground. Work will involve revamping the existing children’s play area with new equipment, creating a multi-use games area for teenagers, installing an outdoor adult exercise area and extending the exercise track to make it a circuit.
Some £97,855 is being invested into Wychbold recreation ground to develop a community orchard, community allotment, enhanced wildlife corridors, a community sensory garden, new accessible pathways and improved car parking.
In Eckington, £169,940 will support the next stage of the parish council-led community fields project. This includes the creation of a memorial garden, community growing space, a new play area aimed at older children, a community orchard and car parking.
The latest round of funding means Wychavon will have invested about £4.5 million in community projects through the legacy grants scheme since it launched in 2018.
