Housing services ensure that we have the long term planning to provide more housing in the future and ensure people living here now have access to quality housing. We also ensure those in housing crisis have a roof over their heads as quickly as possible.
Planning services provide advice, support and process applications for everything from small extensions to massive housing developments. We also formulate the policy on where development will go in the future.
What is your job role and what does that mean?
I work in the Enforcement team within the Planning Department. I am the first point of contact for the customer and offer both administrative and operational support to the team.
What does a normal day in your role look like?
My usual day might include receiving and responding to enquiries from the customer by email, phone or post regarding potential breaches of planning control within the district. The customer might be a member of the public, a Parish or Town Council, a Ward Councillor, a member of staff or external agencies such as Building Control or the Environment Agency.
I may need to accompany an Enforcement Officer on a site visit to support them in evidence gathering – The Enforcement team visit a multitude of different types of sites and come into contact with lots of different people some of which require us to work collaboratively.
I also have responsibility for producing performance statistics for the team and as a result of this on a day to day basis work as part of the team to ensure we are on target and working effectively and efficiently.
