A Warm Georgian Welcome: New Banners Celebrate Pershore’s Identity
Pershore’s entrances have been given a fresh new look thanks to the installation of bespoke lamppost banners designed to offer a brighter, more inviting welcome to the town.
The project, delivered by Wychavon in partnership with the Pershore Place Board, aims to enhance the visual appeal of the town centre and celebrate what makes Pershore such a distinctive and much-loved place.
Known for its Georgian architecture, riverside walks and famous Pershore Plum Festival, the town attracts visitors from across Worcestershire and beyond. The new banners set the tone from the moment people arrive, showcasing Pershore’s character and charm and offering a warm welcome to residents returning home and visitors exploring the area.
The artwork has been created by local artist Jilly Oxlade‑Arnott, who has incorporated the iconic Pershore Plum colours and illustrations of some of the town’s key attractions. Each banner proudly displays the wording “Pershore” and “Welcome to our Georgian Town.”
Cllr Richard Morris, Leader of the Council at Wychavon, said: “Pershore is a town with real heart, and these banners help share that spirit with everyone who passes through. Whether you’re a long-time resident or a first-time visitor, we want you to feel welcomed and proud of the place you’re arriving in. It’s wonderful to see local creativity shining through this project, and we’re pleased to work with the Pershore Place Board to deliver improvements that celebrate the town’s identity.”
Michael Hodges, Chair of the Pershore Place Board, added: “We’re delighted to see this project come to life. The banners capture so much of what makes Pershore special, and they offer a warm, positive first impression of the town. It’s a small change that makes a big difference to how people experience Pershore as they arrive.”
The installation forms part of Wychavon’s wider programme of town centre enhancements, helping to boost pride in place and support local communities.

The Pershore Place Board was created following the Pershore Town Centre Investment Prospectus and brings together local volunteers to guide the town’s long-term development. Operating independently but accountable to Wychavon District Council, the Board provides impartial advice to support Pershore’s economic, cultural, and social growth. It leads the delivery of the Prospectus vision, oversees the Pershore Ambassadors programme, and encourages future investment while protecting the town’s unique character. The Board meets monthly at venues across Pershore, often welcoming guest speakers and observers.
