Wychavon’s new Chairman has pledged to shine a spotlight on the district’s voluntary and community groups during his year in office.
Cllr Mark Goodge took on the chain at Wychavon’s Annual Council meeting on 14 May and will serve for 12 months. His wife, Emma, is his consort for the year.
The former Mayor of Evesham is a district councillor for Bengeworth Ward, a town councillor and has also represented Evesham at county council level. Those who nominated him described Cllr Goodge as a ‘champion of his residents’ and ‘someone who 'serves his residents with conviction.’
Cllr Goodge said: “It’s an honour to wear the Chairman’s chain and I look forward to getting out and about across the district. I want to shine a spotlight on the great work being done by voluntary and community groups across Wychavon, particularly those serving people with special needs or our disadvantaged communities. I would love to pay them a visit and help spread their message.”
Outgoing Chairman Cllr George Duffy has the honour of being Wychavon’s youngest Chairman in 51 years, having taken on the role at just 27.
He said: “It was a wonderful privilege serving as Wychavon’s Chairman for the last 12 months. There were many highlights, including opening Cycling For All at Evesham VeloPark, re-signing the Armed Forces Covenant at Norton Barracks, joining the dig Wychavon funded at Hartlebury Castle as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, raising the flag to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, numerous festivals and of course being supported by my consort, Peppa the dog.”
Cllr Gregory Wilkins was elected as Vice Chairman for the year.
