Droitwich Spa is going all in for reading this spring, as local partners launch a new initiative inviting businesses and community spaces to create welcoming reading corners across the town.
The Droitwich Spa Reading Pledge is a collaboration between Droitwich Library, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, and Wychavon, developed as part of the National Year of Reading 2026.
The pledge encourages cafés, shops, salons, waiting rooms, community halls and charities to host a small reading space and a free book swap. Each participating venue will receive a starter pack of books from the library to help them get started, as well as a social media toolkit
Droitwich Spa Library Manager Nicki Hitchcock, said: “Reading is a lifelong skill and a source of joy, calm and connection. By creating small reading spaces in everyday places, we hope to make reading more visible and accessible for everyone in Droitwich Spa.”
Cllr Richard Morris, Leader of the Council and Executive Board Member for Economic Growth and Tourism, said: “This project is a brilliant example of what happens when our community comes together with a shared purpose. By creating small, welcoming reading spaces in everyday places, we’re helping to make reading part of the rhythm of life in Droitwich Spa. I’m proud to see local businesses, schools and the library working side by side to inspire curiosity and connection across the town.”
The initiative supports Wychavon’s wider ambition to promote health and wellbeing across the district, helping to build a community where reading is celebrated by all ages.
