The future of one of Evesham's most important historic buildings has been secured following a landmark agreement between Wychavon and Evesham Town Council.
Responsibility for managing and caring for Evesham Town Hall now sits solely with Evesham Town Council after Wychavon transferred the leasehold it acquired as part of the deal to buy the Riverside Shopping Centre.
Evesham Town Council already owned the freehold for the Grade II listed building and the agreement means they now have complete control over the care and management of the property for the first time in decades.

With Wychavon due to be abolished as part of Local Government Reorganisation in 2028, the leasehold transfer was seen as key to ensuring the destiny of the Town Hall was in the hands of Evesham residents.
Cllr Richard Morris, Leader of Wychavon, said: “Evesham Town Hall is at the heart of the town's history and civic life, so it is only right its future should be entrusted to the community it serves. Ensuring this important historic building is now fully under the stewardship of Evesham Town Council, with its long-term care secured for future generations, is just part of the lasting legacy we want to leave our district as we prepare for Local Government Reorganisation.”
Cllr Bill Kimberley, Mayor of Evesham, added: We are delighted to take on full responsibility for Evesham Town Hall, which gives us greater control over the future of this much-loved building. We’re grateful to Wychavon for making this opportunity happen and look forward to ensuring the Town Hall continues to play an important role in the life of Evesham, as it has done for centuries and will do for many years to come.”
