New Interpretation Board Brings Pershore Abbey Back to Life

Visitors to Abbey Park in Pershore can now travel back to the early 1500s and experience the Abbey as it once stood, long before the Dissolution of the Monasteries, thanks to a striking new interpretation board funded through Wychavon’s share of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The Perspex panel, found across from Pershore Abbey’s main entrance, acts like a window into the past. When lined up with the surviving structure, the outline reveals the full scale of Pershore Abbey at its most impressive, allowing visitors to imagine towering walls, sweeping roofs and the grandeur of a building that dominated the landscape for centuries.

This immersive feature transforms a simple stroll through Abbey Park into a moment of historical discovery. It invites residents and visitors to pause, look again, and reconnect with a chapter of Pershore’s story that has been hidden in plain sight.

Cllr Richard Morris, Leader of Wychavon District Council, said: “This is a brilliant example of how a simple idea can have a big impact. The board brings our heritage to life in a way that’s both educational and inspiring. I’m proud that we’ve been able to support it through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and I hope it sparks curiosity and pride in Pershore’s rich history.”

The board is now in place in Abbey Park and free for everyone to explore, offering a unique chance to see Pershore Abbey as it might have looked more than five centuries ago.
