Pershore Town Centre Upgrade Improves Church Walk for All
Wychavon, in collaboration with the Pershore Place Board and Worcestershire County Council Highways, has completed a series of enhancements to Church Walk in Pershore - transforming the area into a safer, more accessible, and visually appealing space for residents, visitors, and local businesses.
Funded by Wychavon's share of the UK Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the project focused on upgrading two key sections of pavement along Church Walk. The existing paving slabs - many of which were mismatched, damaged or uneven - were removed to eliminate trip hazards and improve accessibility for pedestrians, wheelchair users and those with mobility aids. These areas have now been resurfaced with tarmac, providing a smoother, more consistent surface that supports walking and wheeling through the town centre.
In addition to the resurfacing, new bicycle racks have been installed to replace older units. The updated racks were selected to complement the area's character better, supporting active travel while enhancing the overall look and feel of the street. A raised bed has also been added around the tree near the site to help protect the pavement from further damage caused by tree roots, preserving both the health of the tree and the integrity of the walking surface.
These improvements form part of a wider programme of investment led by the Pershore Place Board to revitalise the St Andrews Garden and Church Walk area. The initiative seeks to enhance the town centre’s visual appeal, accessibility and functionality, creating a welcoming environment that encourages footfall and supports local businesses.
