A treasure trove of entertainment celebrating 90 years of Droitwich Lido comes to a swashbuckling conclusion with a free special open-air screening of a Hollywood blockbuster.
Visitors can enjoy a cooling dip in the pool on Saturday, August 16 from 3.30pm to 5.30pm before plunging into Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which will be shown in the car park of the Worcester Road venue from 7.30pm to 9.45pm.
Movie-goers are asked to bring their own chairs but food and drink can be purchased from Little Al’s café.
A film showing is the perfect way to round off the Lido’s landmark year, as it was popular film star of the day, Ralph Lynn, who officially opened the pool, known as the ‘Seaside of the Midlands’, before excited crowds back on 10 June 1935.
All summer the Lido has been marking the milestone with a series of entertainment including a birthday party, musical evening and synchronised swimming display. A memory book, containing photographs and written memories of Lido users past and present, has also been produced and is currently on sale.
Suzi Wood, Chair of Friends of Droitwich Spa Lido, said: “We've had a fabulous summer at the Lido so far and we are rounding off the Lido's 90th Birthday celebrations with a free outdoor cinema event with a nautical theme, Pirates of the Caribbean, 'The Curse of the Black Pearl'. Let's make this a summer to remember!”
