Recognising Remarkable Residents: Liz Green Named Wychavon Community Star
Wychavon is proud to recognise Liz Green as one of this year’s Wychavon Community Stars, celebrating her extraordinary voluntary work to make Evesham and the surrounding areas more dementia‑aware, dementia‑friendly and connected.
Liz was nominated for her countless hours of voluntary dedication and her unwavering commitment to supporting people living with dementia and their families.
For many years, Liz has been at the heart of the Evesham Dementia Action Alliance (EDAA), a network of local professionals, organisations, voluntary groups and individuals working together to build a dementia‑friendly community. As a volunteer coordinator, Liz brings people together, shares vital information, and helps ensure that those living with dementia are supported by a growing number of dementia‑friendly places, groups and activities.
Liz’s impact stretches far beyond day‑to‑day tasks. She brings people together, organising uplifting social events, creating the materials that help spread the word, chairing meetings with calm confidence, and working closely with partners, including Wychavon, to keep dementia awareness firmly on the community agenda.
When the EDAA faced some of its toughest moments, Liz was one of the people who quietly but determinedly kept it going. She helped steer the group through national changes to the Dementia Action Alliance structure, supporting its transition into a fully independent charity. After the pandemic, she was instrumental in bringing the Alliance back into the heart of the community, rebuilding connections, re‑energising volunteers and ensuring the group had a strong digital presence and a renewed identity.
Liz also volunteers as a Dementia Friends Ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society, delivering free Information Sessions to businesses, organisations and community groups across Wychavon. These sessions help people better understand dementia and how small actions can make a lasting difference.
Speaking about receiving her Community Star, Liz said: “I really enjoy volunteering in this sector and am pleased to accept this award on behalf of all the members of the EDAA network who are working so hard towards making Evesham a dementia‑friendly community.”
Cllr Mark Goodge, Chairman of Wychavon, said: “Liz represents the very best of Wychavon. Her compassion, her persistence and her belief in a fair and accessible community have made a real difference to people’s lives. We are incredibly proud to recognise her as a Community Star and grateful for everything she continues to do for Evesham.”

Wychavon Community Stars celebrate the everyday heroes who make our district a kinder, more connected and more resilient place. From volunteers and neighbours to carers, fundraisers and quiet do‑ers, the awards shine a light on people who go above and beyond for others.
Anyone can nominate a Star — whether it’s a friend, colleague, volunteer, neighbour or someone who has made a difference in your life. Examples of the kinds of things people may receive a Community Star for include:
- Helping to make their town or village a better place to live
- Improving life for people less able than themselves
- Making a difference to the local environment
- Improving a struggling voluntary organisation
